Muscat: Mwasalat and Al Maha Petroleum have signed a five-year agreement valued at OMR125,000 to build a solar energy powered air-conditioned bus stop.
Mwasalat, formally known as Oman National Transport Company, signed the agreement with Al Maha Petroleum Products Marketing Company, who will have naming rights and exclusive rights to promote and advertise at the bus stop.
"The signing of this agreement comes within the framework of Mawasalat's keenness to promote the sector and develop its services, as well as seeking alternatives and options to support public transport services, which will greatly contribute to reducing reliance on government support for the sector," Mwasalat said in the statement.
The agreement, valid for a period of five years and valued at OMR125,000, was signed by Ahmed Al Bulushi, the Chief Executive Officer of Mawasalat, and by Mr. Ahmed Bin Bakhit Al Shanfari, General Manager of Marketing, Sales and Business Development at Al Maha.
Mawasalat said that projects like this bus stop will help promote the use of public transport buses. In December 2016, Mawasalat signed a two-stop agreement with Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) and another agreement with Lulu Hypermarket to establish an air-conditioned stop at the Oman Avenues Mall in June, 2017. This will increase the number of air-conditioned parking spaces from the current two to four stops.
