In partnership with bp Oman and in collaboration with Ministry of Education, Kidsity held the fourth National robotics Olympics closing ceremony, held under the patronage of Sayyid Khalid bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Chairman of SABCO Group. The national robotics Olympics is a competition for teams based on designing and programming EV3 (evolution 3 lego) robotics to apply certain tasks and win matches against teams from all 11 governorates. A total of 1,118 beneficiaries participated in the programme throughout the four cycles of the National Robotics Olympics.
The competition started with a qualification stage which was held for a duration of two weeks, qualifying two teams from each governorate to compete in the final stage of the competition. The matches required the designed and programmed robots to race across a 1.2m track and drop a barrier using a robotic arm designed by the team. 24 teams comprising of a total of 48 students qualified for the final stage to compete for the first three winning placements, with cash prizes up to 750 Omani rial.
Shamsa Al-Rawahi, bp Oman Social Investment Manager, commented: “Encouraging children to innovate is a key educational skill needed for future developments in our country. The competition was a valuable experience to all students as it allowed them to explore their potential in robotics and enhance their building and analytical thinking skills and enhances their knowledge in STEM education.”
Saif Al Manji, Co-Founder of Kidsity, further added about the importance of National Robotics Olympics: “These programmes empower students with applicable skills such as inventiveness, teamwork, and persistence, it also empowers them to face a variety of challenges and opportunities more confidently.
