Oman's Commerce Ministry continues inspections for electronic payment services in stores

Muscat: 444 violations have been issued against commercial shops in Muscat Governorate during February and March for not providing electronic payment devices.

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion said that it is following with interest the reactions about the availability of electronic payment devices in shops. The Ministry noted that this matter reflects the community's interest and keenness to achieve comprehensive electronic transformation in various financial and commercial transactions.

‎Furthermore, the Ministry added that they are working with ⁦‪Central Bank of Oman‬⁩ to overcome the challenges that delayed the obtaining of electronic payment devices for the merchants. Coordination is currently underway with banks and companies to provide the devices faster to cover demand.

The Ministry confirmed that the inspection campaigns are being continued in various governorates, by monitoring the commitment of commercial shops in providing the electronic payment service, which was included in the first phase of the following activities:

- Sale of Building materials

- Sale of Electronics selling

- Tobacco business

- Sale of gold and silver

- Activities in restaurants and cafes

- Sale of food

- All activities in industrial areas, commercial centers and gift markets

- Sale of vegetables and fruits.

The Ministry added: “Because you are an essential partner in our work system, and efforts are integrated with your cooperation with us, we are pleased to receive consumer reports through the call center at 80000070 for cases in which the above mentioned stores are not offering online payment services, if they ask the customers for additional fees for online payment, or hiding the device and saying that the network is weak.
