Muscat: Vehicles that have been parked for long periods, in the Al Sahwan Public Garden, will be cleared today by the General Directorate of Muscat Municipality in Seeb.
This comes shortly after the municipality had warned people to remove their vehicles before the deadline to do so passed. This move is part of the municipality’s initiatives to dissuade people from parking vehicles for long periods of time, beyond the permitted time zone. Apart from this, officials have also posted several posters that read, “Vehicles are not permitted [to park] for long periods [of time] except during the specific time of visiting the garden."
The gates to the garden will also be opened only during certain hours of the day, to ensure that parking spaces are reserved only for people visiting the garden.
According to the online statement by Muscat Municipality, “Leaving vehicles for several months spoils the appearance of the park as dust accumulates on the vehicles. Apart from that there is always the danger of vehicles catching fire if left under the sun for a long time. In addition to that, the flow of traffic in some locations is affected as these vehicles cover large public areas, making it difficult for customers to find parking spaces here.”
The gates of the Al Sahwan Public Garden will be open every day from 4 pm to 12 am, and from 9 am to 12 am during weekends and public holidays.
This action comes within the framework of Muscat Municipality and their keenness to find successful solutions to facilitate parking for visitors of the park.
