Oman’s consumer watchdog helps recover OMR1,000

Muscat: The Public Authority for Consumer Protection in Musandam Governorate, helped recover OMR1,000 in February 2018, according to the monthly statistical reports of the Department’s complaints’ section.
There were two issues that the department helped resolve.
The first incident occurred when a consumer’s eye sight was damaged after he bought a pair of spectacles from a store. According to officials, after the man bought the spectacles, he suffered a headache, which led to him being hospitalised. On the second day he realised that his eyesight was damaged. After he filed a complaint with the Public Authority for Consumer Protection, a settlement was reached, and the store authorities paid him a compensation of OMR200.
The second complaint was by a person who approached the consumer protection after there was a delay in the delivery of doors that he had ordered for OMR800. The two parties agreed to terminate the agreement and a settlement was reached, where the store returned the money to the consumer.
Mohamed Al-Dhahouri, Director of the Consumer Protection Directorate in Musandam, said that the refunds are part of the efforts exercised by the Commission in order to protect the rights of consumers, either by resolving complaints through friendly settlement methods or by referring them to the judicial authorities.
