Muscat: An expat man who dressed as a woman in public has been arrested in Al Buraimi, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) announced.
According to officials, the man was trying to enter a park that was open only for women on Women’s Day.
ROP said, “Police in Al Buraimi managed to arrest an [expat of] Asian nationality in Al Buraimi park, dressed in women's clothing, which was a ‘women's only day’ at the park.”
The accused, ROP added, was wearing an abaya, niqab, and a scarf.
Police thanked the women that reported the suspect, who has now been referred to the authorities for further questioning.
Article 266 of the Oman Penal Code states that men appearing in women’s clothing in public can be imprisoned for one month to a year, and can also a receive a fine of up to OMR300.
