More than 240 expats arrested on prostitution, trafficking charges in Oman

Muscat: A total of 199 women and 48 men were arrested on charges of prostitution and human trafficking in Oman.
The accused were arrested in various parts of Bausher and were then sent to the judicial authorities for further investigation.
The Royal Oman Police (ROP) said, “Police officers arrested 247 violators in Bausher. Among them, 199 [were] women and 48 [were] men from different Asian and African nationalities.”
“The accused were arrested in coordination with the Department of Criminal Investigation in Muscat, the Crime Control Department, Bausher Police Station and the Special Forces Police Command, with the support of the Ministry of Manpower and Bausher Municipality,” ROP added.
The crimes of the accused include “infiltration, violation of labour and residence law, as well as fraud, prostitution, and human trafficking”.
In February, four expats were arrested for a prostitution racket in Samail. Earlier, in October last year, the Department of Criminal Investigation at the police station in Sur arrested five women of Asian nationality on charges of prostitution.
