New scam looting people through WhatsApp

Muscat: The Information Technology Authority (ITA) has warned people against a new scam that is being carried out through WhatsApp.
Authorities have asked people to refrain from replying to WhatsApp messages from strangers, that ask for the verification code for their bank accounts and have discouraged people from transferring any funds to such people.
In a statement online the officials said, “We have received a number of complaints regarding personal impersonation through WhatsApp. Please do not respond to the messages requesting the verification code of the account and do not transfer any funds.”
The ITA is in contact with the reporter and is trying to provide technical support to solve the problem.
