Muscat: As part of its drive to ensure the safety of school students, the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology launched an inspection campaign of buses transporting students in a number of schools in the Sultanate of Oman.
The safety campaign was launched under the slogan ‘An integrated, safe and sustainable school transport system’ to determine the extent of operators' compliance with the requirements of the Land Transport Law and its accompanying regulations, and to ensure the implementation of security and safety requirements during the transport of students.
The campaign resulted in the issuance of a number of violations, represented by the lack of specifications for the safety of school transport buses, failure to register them with the transport platform for providing bus services in the Sultanate of Oman, in addition to the failure to adhere to the technical specifications approved by the Ministry.
The Ministry emphasised that the inspection campaign included checking school buses for security and safety requirements, a first aid kit, registration of the bus on the digital transport platform, their commitment to the tasks assigned to them, and commitment to the cleanliness of school buses.
The ministry indicated that the inspection campaigns on school transport buses will be periodic and continuous throughout the academic year to ensure the safety of students.
Within its implementation plan for this year, the Ministry is working on issuing a number of regulations governing school transport to ensure safe and comfortable daily transport for students on a fleet of advanced buses equipped with safety and comfortable means.
