Weather alert: Hailstorm, rains forecast for Oman

Muscat: A trough of low pressure building up over the Sultanate will lead to hailstorms and rains for many parts of Oman from Saturday, the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Center at the Public Authority for Civil Aviation has warned.

A statement from the Directorate General for Meteorology read, "The latest weather analysis... shows that the Sultanate will be affected by [a] trough of low pressure starting from Saturday, February 24, 2018 to the next few days."

The statement added that rainfall and ocassional thunderstorms associated with fresh wind and hail are expected over the governorate of Musandam, and extending to North and South al Batinah, Muscat, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, and North and South Al Sharqiyah.

The sea state in the Sea of Oman and at Musandam is also expected to be rough, authorities have warned, with waves reaching a maximum height of 2.5 metres.
