Smart cities to reduce operational costs and enhance sustainability of local communities

MUSCAT: Smart cities are expected to reduce operational costs and enhance the sustainability of local communities, according to Eng Abdullah bin Rashid al Badi, CEO of Tadoom.

Tadoom, a pioneering semi-governmental company in the Sultanate of Oman, is dedicated to delivering cutting-edge smart city solutions that will enhance the efficiency and sustainability of local communities.

The company was officially launched recently at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre (OCEC) by Abdulsalam bin Mohammed al Murshidi, President of Oman Investment Authority (OIA).

The company aims to empower cities with the latest technologies, including the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and big data analytics, and harness the power of connected devices and data-driven insights.

Backed by OIA, Tadoom’s vision is to drive smarter, more efficient, and sustainable urban environments, shaping a brighter future for all.

Speaking at the launch ceremony, Al Badi, said: “Tadoom provides solutions for smart cities and aims to increase the efficiency of services by reducing operational costs through a build-operate-transfer ownership system.

“We have intensified our efforts in the renewable energy sector, where we launched Solar Wadi Company, one of the first local companies involved in developing electricity production projects from renewable energy sources, to contribute to reducing emissions and achieving the carbon neutrality target by 2050.”

The company seeks to enable both the government and private sectors to provide basic and service infrastructure by contributing smart water solutions, smart energy solutions, smart environmental solutions, smart mobility solutions, smart building solutions, and smart governance.

Al Badi said: “In the smart cities sector, we presented a pioneering model in partnership between the public and private sectors as the first project of its kind in the Sultanate of Oman, cutting these wide stages with a design, construction, operation, and ownership transfer system. We employed ideal AI and Internet of Things technologies by implementing one of the largest smart metering projects. We have also worked on designing, building, and operating the first commercial network for the Internet of Things.”

Tadoom has partnered with Omantel in adopting Internet of Things technologies, in addition to providing innovative financing solutions and opening investment spaces for partnership with institutions through the 'Build, Operate, Transfer' system – a move aimed at increasing efficiency by reducing operating costs.

The launch also witnessed an exhibition of Tadoom products and their utilisation of artificial intelligence technologies.
