Oman's manpower ministry has stopped dealings with 199 companies. Here's why

Muscat: The Ministry of Manpower announced that it has taken action against 199 establishments employing 16,544 people for not hiring Omani nationals.
The Ministry added that the companies in question had employed more than 50 workers each, but not one of them was a citizen. This is in violation of the Sultanate’s Omanisation policy.
As many as 78 establishments were raided in Dhofar, the highest number in any governorate. These companies collectively employed 2,360 workers. The establishments affected in Muscat employed 6,918 workers in all, the highest for any governorate. It is worth noting that only 21 companies were raided in Muscat.
Some 27 companies employing 797 workers were affected in Sharqiyah north. As many as 25 establishments employing 886 workers were raided in Al Sharqiyah south. In Batinah north, 18 establishments were raided. Batinah south witnessed a crackdown on 12 companies.
Nearly nine establishments were raided in the Buraimi governorate, while four were raided in the Al Dakhiliyah governorate.
The ministry cracked down on a single company in the Dhairah province. As many as four companies were raided in the Al Wusta governorate.
The ministry has, in the past, repeatedly warned companies to comply with the Omanisation policy.
“The Ministry of Manpower stopped dealing with 199 establishments in the private sector as a result of its non-commitment to employ the national manpower. The ministry indicated that the establishments that have stopped dealing with them have an imported labour force of more than 50 workers with the first and excellent grades and the global company does not employ any citizen,” MoM said in statement.
The Ministry explained the decision saying: “The suspension includes the failure to provide any service, including the issuance of new work permits and the issuance and renewal of work cards.”
In case of non-compliance with the Omanisation rate prescribed and determined by at least 10 per cent, the Ministry will take the necessary legal action.”
