PGA European Tour comes to Oman today

Muscat: Sporting history will be made on Thursday when the National Bank of Oman, in partnership with the Omani Government, Al Mouj Golf, and the European Tour Middle East, will bring the PGA European Tour event, NBO Oman Open, to the Sultanate for the first time.
Featuring many of the world’s top golfers, the US$1.75m prize money tournament will further cement Oman’s position as one of the most sought-after golf destinations. NBO Oman Open follows the successful hosting of the Challenge Tour NBO Road to Oman Golf Classic at Al Mouj Golf for the last five consecutive years.
“We are officially in the big league, hosting one of the leading professional golf tournaments in the world,” Ahmed Al Musalami, CEO of NBO, said.
“That’s not all. This tournament will also give the world a view of the vast opportunities Oman has to offer. We are confident of the economic benefits that NBO Oman Open will bring and remain steadfast in our commitment to evolve the sport of golf across the country,” he added. The NBO Oman Open at Al Mouj Golf is open to the public and will cater to both golf enthusiasts and families alike. The Public Village will offer a range of fun activities, including bouncy castles and mini golf, in addition to a selection of food stalls. In preparation for the star-studded event and to raise public interest in the game and the event, NBO held a trick shot at its new headquarters in Al Azaiba. Several outreach activities in schools were also conducted to attract, younger fans to the sport.
The PGA European Tour is an organisation that operates the three leading men’s professional golf tours in Europe: the elite European Tour, the European Senior Tour, and the developmental Challenge Tour.
Live coverage of the tournament will be made to more than 490 million homes in more than 150 countries every week, generating over 2,200 global broadcast hours for each event. Over the last five years, Oman has been a host to the Challenge Tour, of which the season-finale of the last two years has served as a climax to the Race to Oman series.
