Muscat: In an unfortunate accident, a child has reportedly died due to a drowning incident in Seeb beach on Friday. An official at the Civil defence and Ambulance authority in the Wilayat of Seeb confirmed exclusively to Times of Oman that they had received a report of a drowning incident of a child at Seeb Beach in Muscat Governorate. He added “We received the report at 1:35 pm today, Friday, and as a result, the rescue and ambulance teams went to the site of the incident, and the child was taken out of the sea, dead”
The official confirmed that the nine-year-old boy was swimming with his father in the area of torrential sea currents. The strong current pulled him to the depths of the sea and caused drowning.
The official also issued a warning for all beachgoers not to swim except in the designated places, and children should be monitored when swimming and not left alone and monitored while playing near the beach or swimming.
He also has warned adults to keep a watch when their children swim in the sea and to make them wear a swimming jacket and water goggles, and not to let them swim far from the beach.
An official from the Royal Oman Police, (ROP), also urged parents and guardians to pay attention to their children and monitor them while they are swimming and not to allow them to swim in areas with high sea currents.
He also called on group trip supervisors to develop a predetermined program for the trip and to identify group supervisors to guide them and provide them with advice and guidance, while committing to providing safety tools.
