Muscat: The 12th edition of Tour of Oman 2023 will kick off on Saturday (11 February 2023). The sport event is organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and Oman Cycling Association.
As many as 18 global teams representing Europe, Asia, America and Australia will compete during the five-day challenge.
The route of the tour is about (830.3 km). The first stage (147.4 km) of the Tour of Oman will start on Saturday (11 February 2023) in front of Rustaq Castle in the Governorate of South Al Batinah, and will conclude in the Governorate Muscat, in front of the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.
The second stage (174 km) will begin on Sunday (12 February) from Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in the Wilayat of Bausher to the Wilayat of Quriyat.
The third stage (151.8 km) will start on Monday (13 February) from Al Khobar in the Wilayat of Samail to Al Jabal Al Sharqi in the Wilayat of Al Hamra.
The fourth stage (204.9 km) will begin on Tuesday (14 February) from the Wilayat of Izki in the Governorate of A’Dakhiliyah to Yiti in the Governorate of Muscat.
The fifth and last stage (152.2 km) will start on Wednesday (15 February) from Al Fayhaa Resthouse in the Wilayat of Samail to Al Jabal Al Akhdar.
The event will give the participants the opportunity to enjoy viewing the natural landscapes of the Sultanate of Oman through the routes that have been approved by the main committee of the Tour.
This edition of the Tour aims to promote for tourism in Oman, popularise this global sport, and attract tourists to familiarize with marvellous natural, historical and cultural attractions.
Oman national team will participate in the Tour with a crew of seven cyclists namely Abdulrahman Al Yaqoubi, Mazin Al Riyami, Mohammed Al Wahibi, Abdullah Al Ghailani, Munthir Al Hassani, Said Al Rahbi and Faisal Al Maamari.
The main committee of this year’s competition and for the first time in the history of the Tour, introduced a new race named “Muscat Classic” for (173.7 km). The race will kick off on Friday (10 February 2023); one day before the Tour of Oman 2023. The race will start at 11 am from Al Mouj Muscat as the competitors will race near tourist attractions highlighting the architectural beauty in Oman. The route of this race will extend to the corniche street in the Wilayat of A’Seeb to Al Jabal street in the Wilayat of Al Amirat, and returning to Darsait through Wadi Al Kabeer, and down to villages of Yiti and Qantab, to Al Bustan roundabout towards Sidab and finally in front of the State Council. The participants in this race will get international points that qualify them to take part in the World Championship.
The Tour, since the first edition, managed to achieve a wide public response in the Sultanate of Oman and the world, and a place on the agenda of global interest in the sport of cycling. Further, this sport event succeeded to attract the most famous international cyclists, international champions and the most important international teams.
