bp Oman and Al Tawasul institute launch the “Sharah” programme for jobseekers with hearing disabilities

Muscat: In partnership with bp Oman, Al Tawasul Institute for Training held a ceremony to launch the ‘Sharah’ programme - the first of its kind in the region - under the patronage of HE Sayyid Salim bin Musallam Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of The Ministry of Labor for Human Resource Development.

’Sharah’ is a training programme which targets 40 jobseekers with hearing impairments. The programme aims to develop and enhance their skills in Arabic, English and computer skills to help them advance in the labour market and compete for job opportunities.

It will also include capacity building workshops, outdoor activities and exposure to various fields such as literature, arts, history, graphic design and more. The programme will also train 20 of the participants to become qualified instructors and provide 10 job opportunities for people with hearing disabilities.

Ibrahim Al Hinai, bp Oman Social investment specialist, commented: “The programme supports our aim at bp Oman to empower people with disabilities. This unique programme will enable them to learn the skills so that they can compete fairly with other Omanis in the labour market. We look forward to the success of this programme in delivering that, and continuing to pave the way for more diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives in our society.”

Said Al Badaii, General Manager of Al Tawasul Institute for Training added: “The programme offers valuable knowledge for people with disabilities and with the exposure to various activities and sectors, we hope that it will inspire them to learn more and develop a wide range of skillset and strengths. We hope that through the programme the participants will be able to gain job opportunities in their desired fields of work.”
