Five arrested for possession of drugs

Muscat: Five people were arrested on charges of possession of drugs in Suwaiq, according to a statement from the Royal Oman Police (ROP).
An ROP spokesman said, "The Department of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances, led by the police in North Batinah, managed to arrest five people in the province of Suwaiq for possession of heroin and a number of psychotropic tablets."
The spokesman added, “The five defendants were referred to the judicial authorities for interrogation on charges of possession of narcotic substances for the purpose of trafficking and abuse."
The ROP calls on all citizens and residents to combat narcotics through co-operation and to inform the police about any acts of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances by contacting the hot line 1444 or emergency telephone 9999. The names of all callers will be kept confidential.
