Muscat: Bank Muscat, the flagship financial services provider in the Sultanate, hosted more than 1,000 students from various colleges and universities in the Sultanate as part of internship programme in 2017.

The students underwent internship ranging between one to three months during the year and worked closely with first line, middle and senior management in various departments and branches of the bank. The programme enabled them to gain broad-based experience across the bank’s operations.

The training designed in sync with the syllabus of academic programmes pursued by students was aimed at providing relevant work experience. The internship helped the students to familiarise themselves with various banking operations, including audit, finance, investment banking, IT, cards and treasury as well as branch operations across the Sultanate. The trainees included 83 per cent female students and 17 per cent male students. The interior region branches accommodated 58 per cent of the trainees while capital region branches accommodated 42 per cent trainee students.

Ahmed Faqir Al Balushi, DGM – Human Resources, said: “Bank Muscat is proud to host college and university students every year and provide relevant internship opportunities. The exposure to the dynamic corporate environment provided to the trainees helps them to apply their classroom knowledge to the real world of banking and finance. Bank Muscat is committed to the development of human resources and has achieved 94.57 per cent Omanisation, giving priority for Omanis to occupy key positions. The bank plays a prominent role in the development of Omani talent and is committed to investing in improving their skills and expertise.”

The development of human resources is a priority in the bank which provides relevant educational and development opportunities to employees. The learning and development programmes are carried out through specialised courses conducted by accredited training institutes or through academic links with colleges, universities and leading business schools at the regional and global levels. The Jadara Academy provides comprehensive platform and framework for all staff learning and development programmes in the bank.

The bank assigns highest priorities to the development of its human resources in all functions and levels. The bank’s Jadara Academy organised a total of 821 programmes during 2017.
