India: A Mumbai-based fantasy sports platform Dream 11 will fine employees up to US$1,200 for contacting a colleague who is on vacation, said Indian Media.
According to Indian Media, Co-founder, Bhavit Sheth, said that the company, which was founded in 2008, makes it mandatory for workers to take at least a week's vacation and employees will pay a fine of up to US$1,200 for disturbing colleagues on their time-off.
“Once a year, for one week, you’re kicked out of the system,” Sheth told.
“You don’t have Slack, emails and calls. Because it helps you greatly to have that one week of uninterrupted time and it helps the business to know whether we’re dependent on anyone.”
Sheth told that so far, the system has proved effective.
The company said in a statement, “Dream11 believes that this uninterrupted time allows employees of Dream11 to relax, recharge and come back to work ready to give their best."
The fine is an eye-catching way to let workers enjoy a quality break. In a bid to retain talent, many other businesses including Goldman Sachs Group Inc in New York are allowing staff to take unlimited vacations. On the contrary, a UK recruiting firm last year said it was going to scrap this policy after the perk made employees feel guilty and question how many days they were actually supposed to take.
