Muscat: Omani voters have started voting to elect members of Municipal Councils via the 'Intakhib' mobile application. The voting process began at 7AM, and will continue until 7PM.
731,767 Omani voters, male and female, will vote through the application to choose council members. The total number of candidates has reached 696, including 27 women. 126 representatives will be elected amongst them.
For the first time, the polling process in the elections, currently within the third term (2023/2026), are being held electronically through the 'Intakhib' application, launched by the Ministry of Interior. The application has been designed according to security standards, with precautions for full confidentiality within the election process. It aims to make casting votes an easy and convenient process.
'Inktahib' requires a smartphone equipped with the NFC feature, a connection to the Internet, and a valid personal card. The voter must also be registered in the electoral register.
Statistics of the number of voters in the various Governorates of the Sultanate of Oman include the final lists for the year 2022. In the Governorate of Muscat, the number of voters has reached 103,949. There are 85 candidates, 12 of whom will be elected. In the Dhofar Governorate, there are 84,818 voters and 145 candidates, of whom 20 representatives will be elected. The Musandam Governorate has 11,864 voters and 22 candidates, of whom 8 will be elected.
Meanwhile, in Al Buraimi Governorate, there are 16,696 voters and 20 candidates, of whom 6 representatives will be elected. Al Dakhiliyah Governorate has 83,338 voters and 85 candidates, of whom 18 will be elected. North Al Batinah Governorate has 148,849 voters and 97 candidates, of whom 12 representatives will be elected, and South Al Batinah Governorate has 91,988 voters and 49 candidates, of whom 12 representatives will be elected.
Within Al Dhahirah Governorate, there are 38,583 voters and 31 candidates, of whom 6 will be elected. In Al Wusta Governorate, the number of voters has reached 12,595 voters and 56 candidates, of whom 8 representatives will be elected.
