Muscat: Artifacts dating back to the Neolithic period were found in a mass grave in Al Wusta Governorate.
The Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, in cooperation with an archaeological mission from the Institute of Archeology of the Czech Academy of Sciences, implemented phase one of the second season of excavations at an archaeological site in the Nafun area in the Wilayat of Duqm, Al Wusta Governorate, excavating the mass grave dating back to the Neolithic era. Many artifacts were found within, including pottery, copper collectibles, and shells in which cosmetics were placed.
Approximately 155 archaeological remains were also found in the Nafun region. These included rock inscriptions and tombs. Three-stone tombstones were also found. These are groups of stones, each composed of three erect stones in a pyramidal shape which were believed to have been used for religious rituals. It is also believed to be linked to ancient trade routes of the Iron Age.
