Over 39,000 citizens married in Oman in 2021

Muscat: About 39,000 Omanis were married in the Sultanate of Oman in 2021.

The National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) has issued a report on marriages in the Sultanate of Oman, which includes data related on the number of marriages and the number of divorces during the year 2021.

Data of NCSI, showed that 56 per cent of Omanis are married, 37.6 per cent are unmarried, 2.4 per cent are divorced, and 3.6 per cent are widows in last year. About 39,000 Omanis married, including 34,000 married for the first time, 6,000 new widows and 6,000 new divorces in 2021

 Muscat Governorate has topped among the governorates in registering marriage certificates in 2021 with 3,980, followed by North Al Batinah Governorate Governorate with 3,783 certificates and then Al Dakhiliyah Governorate with 2,292 certificates. 2,236 marriage certificates were registered in Dhofar Governorate, 191 in Musandam Governorate, 420 in Al Buraimi Governorate and 1,949 in South Al Batinah Governorate.

While South Al Sharqiyah Governorate registered 1,643 marriage certificates, 1,470 were in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate,1,154 in Al Dhahirah Governorate and 176 in Al Wusta Governorate.

The results showed that the highest divorce cases in 2021, according to the nationalities of the husband and wife, were between the Omani couples at a rate of 92 per cent. The divorce rate between Omani husband and foreigner wife at 4 per cent and 3 per cent between foreigner couples.
