Muscat: Omani citizens abroad will be able to cast their vote on Sunday to elect their representatives in the municipal council elections for the third term, through the Ministry of Interior’s application (app) called Intakhib (elect).
The app represents a qualitative shift in using technological developments witnessed worldwide for facilitating election process.
The application is designed with security standards and the required precautions to ensure confidentiality of elections.
The application requires a smart phone that supports near field contact (NFC) facility and is linked to the Internet and valid ID cards. The voters should be registered in the elections record.
A number of citizens and specialists have praised the efforts of the Ministry of Interior during each election especially its keenness to adopt modern technological developments and employ them to the election process.
They also reaffirmed that Intakhib (elect) app, would ensure the participation of a big number of voters as the application is easy to use and will allow citizens abroad to smoothly cast their vote on 18 December and voters within the Sultanate on 25 December.
They also expressed their confidence in the use of modern technology in election of the members of the municipalities for the third term.
The total number of candidates for membership of municipal councils for the third term is 696, including 27 women, while the number of voters is 731,767, including 347,965 women.
