Muscat: The Embassy of Spain in Muscat launched the gastronomic event with the motto “Tapas & Paella” on December 7, at the Spanish envoy residence.
This event was an effort to promote and foster the Spanish gastronomy and culinary cultures, among the Omani Community and friends.
Currently, the term “Tapas” has become a sign of Spanish identity and the best symbol of the country’s gastronomic culture. One of the most famous internationally is Paella. Currently there is a wide variety depending on the regions.
This culinary phenomenon has become an art and has been exported to the rest of the world with the help of the great Spanish Chefs. Tapas restaurants can be found in many countries around the world.
The “tapeo”, going out for lunch or dinner tapas, is a reflection of the Spanish way of life. Sharing tapas is synonymous with sharing time with friends, sharing good times and sometimes also cheering up those going through difficult moments. Eating is a way to “socialise” and be with others.
The event aimed to introduce to Oman the meaning of diversity, both gastronomic and cultural, and for a better intercultural exchange and understanding in a friendly and jovial ambiance.
As Ferran Adriá, one of the most representative chefs of Spanish cuisine once said: “Signature cuisine is putting your personality into what you do and that feeling makes it something different”.
In a press release issued on the occasion, the Embassy expressed its thanks all those individuals and companies that helped with the organisation of the event as well as all those who attended.
