Ibra: The new campus of A’Sharqiyah University was opened on Monday . The function was held under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Haitham bin Tariq Al Said, Minister of Heritage and Culture.
The ceremony , which was held at the site of the new campus in the Wilayat of Ibra in the Governorate of North A’Sharqiyah, coincided with the 47th Glorious National Day celebrations.
Mohammed bin Ali Al Alawi, Chairman of the University Board of Trustees said that after getting the approval to establish A’Sharqiyah University, as the first private institution in the Governorate of North and South A’Sharqiyah, the University received the first batch of students in the academic year 2010/2011.
On his part, Sheikh Abdullah bin Sulaiman bin Hamad Al Harthy, Chairman of A’Sharqiyah University Board of Directors said that the architectural design of the A’Sharqiyah University is unique and reflects the Omani old architecture design. It includes internal roads and spaces that connect the multi-storey buildings. The round layout of the building is inspired from the sun rays as the Governorate of A’Sharqiyah is the first governorate to see sun rise in the Sultanate.
Dr. Abood bin Hamad Al Sawafi, President of the University said that the opening of the university campus is one of the main themes of the strategy related to promoting education, knowledge and research.
The programme included a song expressing thanks and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
It should be noted that A’Sharqiyah University Campus includes six main buildings that include the College of Engineering, the college of Business Admiration, the College of Applied and Health Sciences, the administration building, in addition to student service centre, education resources centre and service building.
The buildings and labs have been equipped with state- of-the art systems and equipment. The project, which stretches over more than 40,000 square metres, cost about OMR25 million.
