Muscat: With 25 participants, the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, represented by the Heritage and Tourism Department in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, organized today, Friday, November 25, 2022, a sand running race in the Wilayat of Bidiyah.
This is the fifth and final station of the winter sports events that the department implements during this season in various states of the governorate.
The activities vary between mountain running races, sand races, cross-country races, in addition to bicycle races and challenge races, as the race coincides with the Sultanate of Oman’s celebrations of the 52nd Glorious National Day.
The race started for the professional category for a distance of 10 km and for the amateur category for a distance of 5 km in front of the Desert Nights Camp. The race track passes a number of archaeological, historical and tourist sites in the wilayat of Bidiyah, and the race witnessed the participation of more than 25 contestants.
At the end of the race, Mohammed bin Nasser Al Hajri, a member of the municipal council in Bidiyah, the sponsor of the occasion, honored the winners of the first three places in each category.
Winter season activities begins in the wilayat
The activities of the winter season 2022/2023 started on Friday, November 25, 2022, in the Wilayat of Bidiyah, in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate, and will continue until the end of March next year.
The season includes various events and activities that contribute to supporting the tourism and economic movement in the Wilayat of Bidiyah in particular, and the wilayats of North A’Sharqiyah Governorate in general.
The activities of the winter season for this year include the Challenge Race for cars, which will be held in four rounds, the activities of the tourist sand gate, and the Ardha camel races in eight different stations, in addition to holding the activities of the Al Qour Natural Park, and other events associated with the tourist season.
