Muscat: The Frankincense Season event organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism will be held on Monday, November 28, 2022 in Dhofar Governorate. 

The "Frankincense Season" event, organised by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, will open in the Land of Frankincense sites in Al-Baleed Archaeological Park, Samhram Archaeological Park, and Wadi Doka Nature Reserve. The event will continue until December 2, 2022.

Khaled bin Abdullah Al-Abri, Director General of the Directorate General of Heritage and Tourism in Dhofar Governorate, said: "The event aims to highlight the historical features of the sites of the Land of Frankincense and the civilised roles it played by building bridges of cultural and commercial exchange with various civilisations of the world in the past, as well as enhancing the tourist flow during winter season."

"The frankincense season will include a presentation of how its products and extracts are manufactured, ancient and modern, in addition to simulating the mechanism of its export through the historical ports in Dhofar Governorate by caravans," Al Abri added. 

 

The frankincense season event will also include an exhibition of perfumes and Omani frankincense products for the most prominent companies in the Sultanate of Oman that use it in their products, in addition to an exhibition of documentary photographs of Khor Ruri that reflects the wildlife in the Sumhuram Archaeological Park.

At the end of his speech, Al-Abri referred to the events accompanying the frankincense season, including the establishment of a corner for restaurants and a children's theater, in addition to giving visitors the opportunity to experience the pleasure boats in Khor Al-Baleed. There will also be planting of a thousand frankincense trees in the Wadi Dawka Reserve on December 2, 2022, to celebrate the inclusion of the sites of the land of frankincense in the list of World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation ‘UNESCO’.
