Tennis: Yash steals the show at ISC tourney

Muscat: Talented teenager Yash Tanna grabbed the limelight on the final day of the the Arabia Falcon Insurance-sponsored Annual Tennis Tournament organised by the Indian Social Club (ISC).
Yash, a Grade 12 student, was in awesome form throughout the tournament, probably his last in Oman before he leaves for higher studies, recorded a brilliant double winning the men’s singles and men’s doubles titles.

In the men’s singles final between two talented teenagers, Yash played with conviction and packed power in his serves and ground-strokes as he routed Hassan Haider 6-0, 6-3 to win the crown.
Yash’s power and consistency were too hot and there was very little that Hassan could do to counter the onslaught. Hassan, though, made his presence felt in the second set and broke Yash in the eighth game to keep his hopes alive.
Yash had different ideas and showed no mercy as he served out to win the second set and the championship.
Yash Tanna and Sanskar Dubey captured the men’s doubles title after a thrilling hard-fought final in which the second seeded team of teenagers upset the top seeded duo of seasoned campaigners Mohan Kannan and KK Girish 7-6 (7-5), 6-4.
The top seeds took the lead when they broke Yash and Sanskar in the seventh game but the youngsters broke back and held to lead 5-4 in the first set.
The excitement continued as the scores were level at six-all. The close contest continued in the tie-breaker which the second seeds won 7-5 and held their nerves to win the second set 6-4.
A. R. Srinivasan, CEO of Arabia Falcon Insurance Company, presided over the finals and distributed the prizes.
