Muscat: Omani students have been ranked second in an international literacy study — and the girls outshone the boys.
The Sultanate has been ranked second in the International Reading Literacy Study PIRLS 2016 published by the International Association for Evaluation of Educational Achievement, the Ministry of Education announced.
Oman ranked second out of 50 countries, with an average 418 points for reading achievement. The score was better than the 2011 score of 391.
The top place in 2016 was secured by Morocco with a 47 per cent increase in improving education.
Oman was one of 18 countries that showed higher than average achievement this year, along with Lithuania and Bulgaria.
Females have achieved better rankings than males, compared to the 2011 results. They achieved an average of 442 points, while Omani males achieved an average of 395 points.
