Al Siyabiyah to preside over Sultan Qaboos Voluntary Award

Muscat: Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Sheikha Aisha bint Khalfan bin Jamil Al Siyabiyah, Chairperson of the Public Authority for Craft Industries (PACI), will sponsor the crowning of winners of the fifth edition of Sultan Qaboos Voluntary Work Award (SQVWA) 2017, at the level of individuals, at the Inter-Continental Hotel.
Organised by the Ministry of Social Development, the function will be held on December 5.
The award in this session witnessed the participation of 66 projects, namely education, disabled, information technology, sports, health, culture, social, media, women, care of elderly, awareness, economic, training and environment fields.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Suayed Al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development and Chairman of the SQVWA said that since its launching in 2011, the award has sought to deepen the values of voluntary work and spread its culture and honour the outstanding efforts to fuel the spirit of competition and innovation in its fields.
He added that the Ministry of Social Development, in cooperation with government and non-government organisations, pays attention to voluntary work.
He stressed that the media plays a major role in spreading and promoting the culture of voluntary work by urging the community and its individuals and institutions to carry out voluntary works, their benefits, review of expertise and experiences as a motivation to participate and engage in this field, in addition to the need to continue the promotion of the award and highlight projects that won in the various editions of the award.
As part of the fifth session of the SQVWA, the National Voluntary Work Seminar will be held on December 5 under the title "Developing Voluntary Work Mechanism for Sustainable Development ".
The seminar will be organised by the Ministry of Social Development in collaboration with the Omani National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, the Regional Council of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO) in Sharjah, under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Suayed Al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development, at the Inter-Continental Hotel in Muscat.
The seminar will be attended by members of professional associations in the Sultanate, Omani women's associations, and the participation of workers, researchers, academics and those interested in the fields of voluntary work. It aims to shed more light on voluntary work in its various charitable, professional and cooperative fields, in the field of women and the field of persons with disabilities, through researching the reality of work in the Sultanate, identifying its challenges, and reviewing its achievements.
It also aims to explore the future of voluntary work and the prospects for transforming it into a lifestyle for individuals and an authentic culture of peoples and societies through the two themes of the seminar " The Prospects and Challenges of Voluntary Work and Civil Society in the Sultanate", which deals with voluntary work in the charitable and professional fields.
The second theme is " Voluntary Work for Sustainable Development ", which deal with several points, such as the role of voluntary work in community development and achieving the objectives of sustainable social development, the contribution of civil society institutions in supporting economic and social development, display of the experiences of Association of Welfare of the Handicapped Children the Omani Women's Association in Salalah, in addition to the Social Action Strategy (2016-2025) Civil Society Institutions Theme.
