Omani Theatre Festival starts next month

Muscat: A play from Palestine will be the guest of honour at this year’s Omani Theatre Festival.
The Ministry of Heritage and Culture will organise the 7th Omani Theatre Festival in the Wilayat of Sohar from 17th to 25th December 2017, under the auspices of Sayyid Saud bin Hilal Al Busaidi, Minister of State and Governor of Muscat.
Sheikh Hamad bin Hilal Al Ma’amari, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture for Cultural Affairs and Head of the Organising Committee said in a press conference held on Sunday at the Ministry’s headquarters that the organising committee has completed all preparation to open the 7th Omani Theatre Festival.
He added that Sohar University will host the opening ceremony, which will include three theatre performances as one of them will be from Palestine, the guest of honour.
The theatre pioneers Abdul Ghafoor Al Balushi, Khalil Al Sinani, Abdullah Al Shanfari and Abdul Rahman Al Faqih will be honoured during the Festival.
On his part, Sayyid Said bin Sultan Al Busaidi, Assistant Director General for Arts said that 13 main and sub awards will be given to participants including the Best 1st Integrated Theatre Performance Award, the Best 2nd Integrated Theater Performance Award and the Best Integrated Theatre Performance Award, in addition to a number of individual
awards.
The concluding ceremony will be held at the theatre of the College of Applied Sciences in Sohar under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Fatik bin Fahar Al Said, Secretary General of the Ministry of Heritage and Culture.
