Muscat: The University of Technology and Applied Sciences will launch a hackathon (Oman a title of Beauty) to enrich the digital content of tourism in the Sultanate of Oman.
Jawaher Al Balushi, Assistant Lecturer at the College of Economics and Administrative Sciences at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences said: βIn conjunction with the launch of the World Cup in the sisterly State of Qatar at the end of November 2022, large number of tourists and foreign visitors will flock to the countries in the Gulf region, and it is expected that these tourists will use the network. The internet is designed to plan short trips in the region, hence, the importance of this hackathon. It will aim to enrich the digital content on the internet to support digital tourism in the Sultanate of Oman.β
The digital content will display brief information about certain tourist places in the Sultanate, and English will be the language of the content of these initiatives, so that it will be one of the guiding platforms for non-Arabic speaking tourists. It will encourage them to visit the Sultanate, knowing that the results of this hackathon will be about websites, articles and blogs, and it will be in the nature of initiative and volunteer work,β Al Balushi added.
The hackathon will target the youth, including students and job-seekers, for participation. The hackathon is organized by the University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Sohar Branch, along with the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism.
