​‘Omani Song Ambassador’ Salim Ali Said passes away

Muscat: Salim Ali Said, an Omani singer from Salalah, has died after a long battle with cancer.

Salim, or 'The Omani Song Ambassador' as his fans called him, passed away in Thailand on Wednesday morning.

The singer had told media earlier this year that he was recovering well and would be returning to Oman soon.

Salim began singing at the age of seven, and released his first national song ‘Tabatel fe hub Al-watan’ in 1974, with ‘Eisha Saeed’ being his first album.

He was known for being one of the first singers in the Gulf to make music videos for his songs, with the his first video released in 1976 with SABCO Media.
