Sultan Qaboos Stadium Complex to host Gulf Hockey Fiesta–2022

MUSCAT: The sixth edition of the Gulf Hockey Fiesta – 2022 is coming to Oman soon.

An all-encompassing and inclusive movement for hockey is set to take place in Muscat, on October 28 and 29 at Sultan Qaboos Stadium Complex, Baushar, Muscat.

The official inauguration of the event is scheduled to be at 6pm on October 28, though the matches start from 2 pm to 11 pm while matches will start from 2 pm to 9 pm on October 29.

This year’s event is extra-special for us as Oman is going to host 5 A side world cup in 2024. The final match will be at 8 on October 29.

This event is under the patronage of the Oman Hockey Association and it is an approved event of the Asian Hockey Federation.

 In the spirit of promoting hockey and as a longtime supporter of hockey in the Middle East, the event has 6 teams internationally and 6 teams locally participating. Besides, there will be exhibition matches between boys and girls of Indian Schools at 3pm on October 29.

Technically supported by UTSC, a sports club which has branches in Dubai, Saudi and India, UTSC established as a union of sports-loving people, is committed to the future of competitive and recreational sports.

The tournament includes Omani teams, showcasing the interest and enthusiasm of Omanis in this sport. Hockey is fast gaining recognition and acceptance as a popular sport for young Omanis and Indians. The tournament will generate international interest from these teams.

The first time Oman national women’s team will be playing friendly matches with visiting teams.

Dr Marwan Juma Al Juma, Chairman, Oman Hockey Association (OHA) and the brain behind bringing the prestigious tournament to the Sultanate says, “We are all set for a successful and high-calibre international tournament. It is a world-class event. And we are proud it is happening in Oman. We are confident that this event will promote tourism in a big way and provide a platform for foreign players to exhibit their skills in hockey to the Omani sports-loving public.”

UTSC, over these, has nurtured and unleashed many sportsmen covering a large spectrum of sports such as cricket, hockey, football, and basketball, to name some, with many of its members participating in regional and international competitions. Through this participation, it aims at promoting the social, physical & cultural welfare of its members and players.

UTSC thus plays an important role in identifying and promoting talents and sanctioning representatives of their respective sports in the Sultanate.

Keen to spot the talent, nurture him/her and provide them with all the facilities and support be it training, development, coaching, on-field guidance, financial or otherwise.
