Muscat: The President of Zanzibar has visited Sohar Port and Freezone in North Al Batinah Governorate on Thursday.
Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar, and his accompanying delegation visited the Asyad group at its port in Sohar and Freezone affiliated to it in North Al Batinah Governorate, and got acquainted with the competitive advantages and logistical services provided by the group to enhance the commercial movement and economic activities between the Sultanate of Oman and Zanzibar.
During the visit, the Asyad Group reviewed its services, including ports, free zones, maritime transport, dry dock, and its competitive logistics solutions, including direct lines for container transportation, transshipment services, cold chain, and e-commerce.
The President of Zanzibar listened to a detailed explanation of the operations of Sohar Port and the latest expansion projects being implemented in its facilities, in addition to the operational and promotional role of the Asyad Group in enhancing the competitiveness of the Sultanate of Oman's ports and linking them with direct shipping lines with various global markets.
The visit also aimed to discuss ways for Zanzibar companies to benefit from Omani ports to export their goods to neighboring regional markets, to Asian markets, and to support Omani exports by linking Omani exporters to African markets and pushing them to compete with local products.
The President’s visit to Sohar Port and Freezone included an introductory tour of the port’s operations as a logistic gateway that accelerates access to various regional and global markets, supported by the integrated logistical solutions provided by the Asyad Group to ensure the efficiency and smoothness of global supply chains.
Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi also learned about the logistical facilities and investment advantages offered by the Sohar Freezone one to attract the interest of major international companies and increase their investments to reach emerging markets, including African markets.
The President of Zanzibar praised the strategic plans and objectives set by the Sultanate of Oman to provide competitive and global logistical services, strengthen trade and economic relations between the two countries, share knowledge, and exchange experiences to benefit from best practices in logistical solutions.
