Omani innovator qualifies for Stars of Science competition

Muscat: An Omani innovator has qualified for the final stage in the Stars of Science competition that was organised by a Qatari Foundation. A number of Omani officials supported her to win first place in the competition.

Sumaya bint Said Al Siyabi qualified for the final stage in the Stars of Science programme that was organised by Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, with her scientific innovation in the environmental field “Bio-analysis of microplastics in a new way of biological and nanotechnology.”

His Excellency Sayyid Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister said: "We are pleased to follow the journey of the Omani innovator Sumaya Al Siyabi in the Stars of Science programme and qualify her for the final stage of her scientific innovation that helps the environment to get rid of microplastics in a practical way. I am pleased to vote for her distinguished innovation, wishing her and the pioneers of innovation and invention all the best."

Ali Al Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology tweeted: "My vote for Sumaya is not only because she represents Oman, but because her innovation addresses a real environmental problem and is the best compared to everyone else, according to the jury in the last round of Stars of Science."

"We are proud and support the distinguished Omani innovator Sumaya Al Siyabi after reaching the final stage of the Stars of Science programme, asking God Almighty to grant her happiness and success in her scientific and practical journey always and forever." Dr Laila Al Najjar, Minister of Social Development said.

Sumaya has a master's degree in biology from Sultan Qaboos University in 2019. Among the most prominent achievements of Al Siyabi is that she received the Youth Excellence Award in 2021 from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Youth and she also won first place in the Arab world in the Sheikha Fadia Al-Saad Al-Sabah Scientific Competition.
