Warm welcome awaits Jordan King in Oman

Muscat: A warm welcome awaits King Abdullah II Ibn Al Hussein of Jordan when he arrives in Muscat on Tuesday on a two-day official visit to the Sultanate of Oman.

Oman and Jordan flags have been put up along the Muttrah Corniche leading to the Al Alam Palace while the regular venue at Qurum also has the flags of the two countries fluttering.

The visit of the Jordan King comes within the framework of cooperation and coordination between the two leaderships to achieve further progress and growth that serve the two countries’ peoples and meet their aspirations.

ONA reported that “talks between the two leaders are of great importance as these will strengthen cooperation in various fields.”

Since the beginning of diplomatic exchange in the 1970s, the two countries’ stands have been identical towards regional and international issues. Both the nations have endorsed dialogue as an effective means of ensuring international peace and security.

The two countries have held consultations in various fields through mutual visits, including a meeting session held in Amman in July where they affirmed their resolve to strengthen bilateral cooperation, as well as ways to enhance joint Arab action to address challenges.

On the economic side, statistics issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI) indicate that the volume of trade between Oman and Jordan increased by 33.8 per cent to OMR61.85mn in 2021, compared to OMR46.23mn in 2020.

Oman’s imports from Jordan amounted to OMR35.40 million in 2021, compared to OMR24.62 million in 2020, an increase of 43.8 per cent, while Oman’s total imports from Jordan during the first six months of 2022 was OMR6.74 million.

The volume of Oman’s exports to Jordan in 2021 was OMR26.44 million, compared to OMR21.61 million in 2020, an increase of 22.4 per cent. Exports in the first six months of 2022 has reached OMR15.58 million. NCSI statistics show that the volume of Jordanian investments in Oman was OMR230.4mn by the end of 2021.
