More than 1,400 graduate from Sultan Qaboos University humanities colleges

Muscat: Assigned by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Hinai, State Advisor sponsored the graduation ceremony of the 28th batch of students from the colleges of humanities at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU).
The total number of graduates is 3,227, including 1,409 graduates in the colleges of humanities. 555 students graduated from the college of Arts and Social Sciences with bachelor degree, 104 with the master degree and 9 with PhD degree. 369 students graduated from the College of Education with bachelor degree, 133 with master degree and 3 with PhD degree. 203 students graduated from the College of Law with bachelor degree and 33 with master degree.
Dr. Ali bin Saud Al Bimani, Vice-Chancellor of SQU, said in his speech that Sultan Qaboos University has accomplished many achievements at various levels, local and international. In terms of academic and institutional accreditation, the university has set up an executive committee to prepare the university report according to the requirements of the Omani Academic Accreditation Authority in the Sultanate (OAAA). The university has been able to collect the necessary data and complete the report and submit to OAAA. The College of Arts and Social Sciences achieved the institutional accreditation of the Agency for Quality Assurance (AQAS) for six (6) years from July 2016 to September 2022.
He added that the Deanship of Graduate Studies at the University offers 98 degrees in the fields of medicine and health sciences, engineering, agricultural and maritime sciences, economics and political science, literature, social sciences, education, law, nursing and science. These programmes are based on sound research base that emphasizes the quality of academic programs and addresses issues of national strategic importance.
SQU Vice- Chancellor added in his speech that 3,444 students graduated from the university with postgraduate degrees since the establishment of the university to date.
He added “In the field of scientific research, seven strategic research grants were approved within the framework of His Majesty’s support, 90 research grants were approved with internal funding from the university, 7 collaborative research grants were awarded within the joint research support program at the universities of the GCC. In the fields of communications and nanoscience, an agreement has been reached with Oman Telecommunications Company (Omantel) to provide support for research projects. The mechanism for the establishment and registration of research groups at the University and the allocation of an annual prize for the best research group was adopted.”
He added, “In the framework of achieving the mission of the university in community service, the Centre for Community Service and Continuing Education presented 46 programs and activities this year that benefited (1061) participants”. He added that 2362 participated in 35 community activities conducted by the university.
