Muscat: The Environment Authority on Monday organised a workshop on protecting eagles in the Sultanate of Oman.

The workshop sought  to conduct surveys and form teams from the departments concerned with the aim of protecting eagles and birds of prey.

The workshop was organised in cooperation with Oman Environment Society and Disney Conservation Fund to underscore the role of eagles in cleaning the environment and serving humanity.

A talk on the global importance of eagles was presented by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), the specialist group at the Endangered Species Conservation Fund.

The discussion also covered the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS), as well as current regional and international programmes on the tracking and monitoring the survival of eagles by satellite.

The workshop was held under the auspices of Mahmoud Yahya Al Thuhli, Administrative Development Adviser to the Environment Authority’s Chairman.
