Oman's efforts for empowerment of women win global praise

Geneva: Progress made by the Sultanate in empowering women has been praised by the members of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW).
The members have hailed the second an third reports submitted to the committee and the responses of the Sultanate’s delegation during the discussion of the report on Friday at the UN Office in Geneva.
Dr. Mohammed bin Said Al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development chaired the Sultanate’s delegation in the presence of Abdullah bin Nasser Al Rahbi, the Sultanate’s permanent representative to the UN and members of the permanent mission to the UN, members of the Sultanate’s delegation comprising representatives of the ministry of social development, the ministry of legal affairs, the ministry of health, the ministry of education, ministry of agriculture and fisheries, the Supreme Court the Public Prosecution and the General Union of Workers of the Sultanate.
The members of the committee comprising representatives of 23 countries was formed to discuss the Sultanate’s report expressed satisfaction over the Sultanate’s efforts towards empowerment of women in all social and economic fields.
The committee praised to this end the Royal care accorded by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said and His Majesty’s support to the Omani woman.
