Twelve men arrested, five boats seized by Oman coastguards

Muscat: Twelve Asian nationals were arrested and five fishing boats seized by coastguards near the Khuriya Muriya Islands in Oman.
"Coastguard police seized the Omani fishing boats in the Wilayat of Shaleem and Khuriya Muriya islands, carrying 12 Asian nationals for violating labour and fishing laws," officials announced.
Last month, 24 people were arrested for breaking the law of marine fishing, Oman's Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries announced.
The ministry recently announced that it would be clamping down on violators of the marine fisheries law, after it was revealed that the number of people caught fishing illegally in Oman rose by almost a quarter in 2016.
