OmanPride: Residents contribute over OMR2,000 to Omani Paws

Omani Paws have thanked the residents of Oman for contributing their time and resources so generously to help them re-home and take care of stray and abandoned pets in the Sultanate.
Comprised entirely of volunteers, Omani Paws received contributions of over OMR2,000 during their recent ‘Bark in the Park’ event, which was held in Ras Al Hamra, in the old PDO school. With the voluntary organisation facing debts incurred from costs due to providing veterinary care, food, and shelter, this money will go a long way in easing their financial worries and helping them care for more animals who can’t fend for themselves.

“Bark at the Park was created as an idea to support and help Omani Paws to cover outstanding bills at the vet clinics for their great work in helping animals with surgeries and medications needed,” said Jamilya Bala, member of Omani Paws and organiser of the event.
“It took around a month to plan and to find volunteers to organise the gathering,” she added.
“Like-minded people have responded quickly and we soon began the process. Activities such as interactive games for kids, sales of different type of goods from art to clothing, beauty corners, face paintings for kids, food stalls, and nursery registrations were available at the event.”
Around 20 volunteers gave up their weekend to help these animals on October 6, with the idea of the event also being to introduce more people in Oman to the problems faced by stray animals. Around 400 people attended Bark at the Park. “There are so many animals looking for forever homes that are available for adoption,” explained Bala.
“Please adopt, don’t shop. For those who can’t adopt for some reason we accept any help, such as donations or anything they think could help and support Omani Paws. “This was a huge help for us and we are so thankful to each and everyone,” she added. “I feel very happy that a small idea grew into a big gathering and so many people responded and supported Omani Paws. The rest of the members are happy to see us making a change and influencing people to care and open their hearts to animals.”

Omani Paws had intended to put some puppies and a wadi dog up for adoption on the day. “We had a wadi dog for adoption on at Bark at the Park, but he is still looking for a forever home,” revealed Bala.
“We had also planned to bring some puppies we have for adoption, but the weather that day wasn’t on our side and it was so hot that we were afraid that the little ones wouldn’t make it. We would like to thank Ras Al Hamra Community and Al Turki Company for their great support in organising the gathering,” she added.
“Special thanks also goes out to all the volunteers and people who came, and for their great contribution and support. We would like to thank also our food and beverage participants such as The Bank, Gloria Jeans, Chez Sushi, German Bakery, and all those who helped us for their generous support.” Bala had a strong, but simple message, for all the residents of Oman. “My message to all people is simple: open your hearts, let’s believe in humanity again. We can create change for animals if we start caring. All you need is care.”
