OmanPride: Omani filmmaker receives peace award in South Korea

There is good in the hearts of many people who wish to make a difference that could contribute to putting an end to wars and bringing about world peace, but there’s only so much a person can do to achieve it. Instead of feeling hopeless, one can be a part of the action that’s set to raise awareness about the importance of world peace. Our very own filmmaker Sultan Al Abdali shares his experience at the International Peace Youth Group (IPYG) in Seoul, South Korea.
The event was attended by many participants, who represented their beloved countries, from young men and women, to former presidents and first ladies of the world. And, Al Abdali represented the Sultanate and won an award as a Peace Messenger.
IPYG is renowned for carrying out a variety of projects on an annual basis that promote world peace. This year, the conference of the 3rd Annual Commemoration of WARP Summit was held to discuss how to enact the international law to prevent wars.
The leading anti-war organisation, which brands itself as an advocate for international peace, drew Al Abdali’s attention immediately. He was determined to take part in the event. “IPYG believes in the important role youth plays as a force for peace in the world.”

Al Abdali brought his filmmaking skills to Seoul, where he cooperated and filmed for a good cause. “I am very happy to make videos that promote peace with my talent. If promoting videos can be a hope for someone who longs for peace, then I’m just happy to be able to help.”
IPYG draws participation from more than 800 organisations in 110 countries around the globe, who came to partake in projects, including ‘Peace Walk’ that raises awareness against wars and empowers people to be leaders in peace-making, ‘Law for Peace,’ which is set to urge the implementation of world peace, and ‘Peace Education.’
Some of the things that Al Abdali has learnt from his trip to Seoul offered him insights into the massive number of people who are aiming for the same goal of world peace, but also there are those who have hidden agendas to disturb the silence, but most importantly, together, people can achieve greatness.

“My goal is making an action plan on how to hold peace events here (in Muscat) for the coming days. So I get to share lots of peace activities from other countries,” said Al Abdali, adding that “if the youth join together, we can also carry various events, such as peace walks, sports contest, and video production.”
Youth from around the globe must be united as one and communicated with without any discrimination against religion, nationality and race, and that will raise awareness about peace and hopefully prevent tragic accidents, conflicts, and wars on a global scale.
