Muscat: Almost 500 workers were caught in Oman for labour law violations, the Ministry of Manpower announced.

The Ministry, represented by the General Directorate of Manpower in North Batinah, caught 472 workers in violation of the labour laws and regulations in various Wilayats in the Sultanate, in September.

Most of the violations were commercial workers with 371, 58 workers in agricultural professions, in addition to 43 workers in private professions.

After taking the appropriate action it was revealed that 223 were fugitive workers and 249 workers were let go by their sponsors. During the same period, 579 workers from the previous arrests were deported.

The General Directorate of Manpower and its inspection team seek to intensify their efforts to control anyone who violates the Labour and Labor Laws by intensifying the inspection campaigns on work sites and places where the expatriate labour force are presented, as well as carrying out surprise searches.

Earlier this year, Al-Batinah Governorate recorded the highest number of violations, at 162 cases, followed by the Muscat Governorate with 132 cases.

The authorities at MoM deal with violations and penalties of labour laws in accordance with Article 114 of the Labor Law.
