Muscat: Residents are being encouraged to pay fees and fines electronically, the Muscat Municipality said on Sunday.
The municipality has introduced several electronic services through its website and smartphone application — called Baladiyeti — which includes building permits, rent contracts, municipal permits, and car parking lots.
Under a new campaign, the Muscat Municipality has launched a promotional campaign for its e-services. “This campaign for electronic services was launched so that the people of Oman know it, and use it, instead of visiting the municipality,” an official from the Muscat Municipality said.
According to a Muscat Municipality official, the service is part of the municipality’s endeavour to enhance its reach. “These services will save time and effort for people,” the official said.
The municipality has made remarkable progress in meeting the targets of the digital Oman strategy and in its efforts to establish the e-governance model, the official said.
The aim of the campaign is to inform the citizens and residents of Oman available on the official website of the Municipality www.mm.gov.om, and to implement it via smartphones.
“The website also contains details of each service and clarifying the documents required to clear any transaction. On the other hand, interactive services that enable the beneficiary to communicate and submit proposals and communications, inquiries and complaints, as well as having extensive information about the governorate of Muscat and some service and development projects and news of Muscat Municipality and various events and activities,” according to Muscat Municipality.
The promotion of Muscat Municipality’s e-services and the implementation of the municipality will begin in the first week of October and end in December 2017 after three months, according to Municipality.
The campaign for the Muscat Municipality services targets everyone from the public civil sector (citizens, residents and visitors), the private sector to business owners wishing to renew their licenses.
“This campaign falls within the framework of Muscat Municipality’s orientation to promote its electronic services and to create effective channels of communication between the Municipality and the community through the provision of a range of municipal e-services,” the Municipality said in a statement on Sunday.
