Omani craftsman takes part in international exhibition

Muscat: Kahleed Al Mashaiki, an Omani sculptor who carves ornamental ships, took part in a navigation exhibition in La Rochelle, France, last
week.
The fair, specialising in water tourism, showcased more than 800 sea-faring items from more than 30 countries and attracteed 90,000 visitors.
Kahleed said: "This exhibition gave me an opportunity to promote Omani handcrafts. The visitors were so impressed by the Omani crafts."
Al Mashaiki has participated in numerous exhibitions both locally and outside Oman, thanks to the Ministry of Tourism.
"I have several difficulties in working as a craftsman - to find funds until I contacted the Public Authority for Handcraft."
Al Mashaiki hopes to buy a piece of commercial land with government support so that he can open a shop managed by Omani youth.
