Consumer watchdog in Oman claws back cash

Muscat: More than OMR326,000 has been recovered for consumers in the first half of 2017, according to The Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) .

"The Public Authority for Consumer Protection (PACP) was able to recover OMR326,653, in the first half of 2017, from a number of sectors," PACP reported.

Waleed bin Ali Al Rawahi, Director of the Complaints Department said that OMR14,714 was recovered from the vehicles and equipment sector, and 48 products in this sector were replaced such as vehicles, spare parts, equipment and tyres. OMR 91,923 was gained from the service
sector by resolving complaints related to construction materials, furniture, clothing and others. Additionaly, OMR 34016 was recovered in the electronic and electrical equipment sector.

"The Authority continues to carry out its mission in order to protect the rights of consumers according to the legal procedures in force in this regard. Consumers can also communicate with the TRA in case of violation of their rights through the channels of communication allocated to the Authority," Al Rawahi said
