Violator of Consumer Protection Law gets three months imprisonment

Muscat: A person was fined OMR 300 and imprisoned for three months for failing to provide service in a proper manner to a consumer in South Al Batinah Governorate.

Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) said in a statement :"The Court of First Instance in  Musannah issued a judicial ruling convicting an accused of a misdemeanor of violating the Consumer Protection Law issued by Royal Decree No. (66/2014), imprisonment for a period of three months, and a fine of OMR 300 ."

 The Consumer Protection Department in Rustaq received a complaint from a consumer, in which he stated that he had agreed with one of the commercial establishments operating in the blacksmithing activity.

The establishment did not comply with what was agreed upon, which is in violation of Consumer Protection Law. Which prompted the customer to submit his complaint to the administration, which took the necessary measures, and then the case file was referred to the Public Prosecution, which initiated the investigation and referred it to the competent court, which convicted the accused of the misdemeanor of not providing the service properly.

The  court  sentenced the accused to three months imprisonment and a  fine of OMR 300, and obligated him to pay the expenses of the public lawsuit.
