Muscat: His Highness Sayyid Fahd bin Mahmoud Al Said, Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers on Sunday received Patriarch John X of Antioch in the Syrian Arab Republic who conveyed greetings of the Syrian government to the leadership in the Sultanate of Oman.
During the meeting, Sayyid Fahd expressed Oman’s appreciation and respect towards all religions. He also pointed out that Islam is a religion of tolerance and coexistence with all monotheistic religions.
Sayyid Fahd expressed the hope that this visit would contribute to bolstering rapprochement and understanding between countries on matters that enhance peace and stability.
In his turn, Patriarch John X of Antioch expressed his delight over this visit and his appreciation for the warm welcome accorded to him. He lauded Oman’s efforts of goodwill and its policy of moderation.
The meeting was attended by Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister and Sheikh Abdullah Mohammed Al Salmi, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs.
The Patriarch is currently visiting Oman, following an invitation from the Ministry of Endowments and Religious Affairs.
He holds prestigious scholarly degrees as he played a positive role in spreading interreligious tolerance, which made him a globally renowned figure.
