Muscat: A new case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) coronavirus has been detected in Oman on August 30, according to World Health Organisation (WHO).
"On 30 August 2017, the national International Health Regulation (IHR) focal point of Oman reported a case of Middle East Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus (MERS-CoV)," the WHO said.
The infection was reported in a 54-year-old male from Musannah in Batinah region.
Globally, 2,080 laboratory-confirmed MERS-CoV cases including at least 722 related deaths have been reported to WHO till September 12, 2017.
The last report of MERS-CoV from Oman was on 29 November 2016.
